As part of the effort to lay a solid foundation for a
lasting peace in Abua kingdom, the Oda-Abuan HRM King Kale
Obuge has instituted a committee to work out modality of
giving a befitting burial to the late Uwema of Abua Sir (Dr)
Victor Uku who died on the 6th October 2000.
Also set up are committees for the burial of the Owema of
Ogbema who was allegedly massacred during the Abua crisis as
well as youths who were killed in the area during the crisis.
Addressing newsmen at the end of a meeting with his council
of chiefs at Otari last Saturday, King Obuge also said that, a
committee to workout modality for youths empowerment in the
area was also set up by the chiefs.
The king described the measure as the first step towards
lasting peace to the war-thorn area.
According to him, “these are the foundation we want to lay
towards a lasting peace and reconciliation” he said.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of work done so
far by the various committees, pointing out that it shows that
the people are ready to work with him to bring lasting peace
to the kingdom.
Meanwhile, King Obuge has called on the government to
declare Abua a disaster zone.
Speaking during a courtesy call on him by EE-ABUAN
Investment Group, a socio-cultural organisation in the area,
the king noted that the declaration of Abua as a disaster zone
will pave way for the reparation of all the damages done to
the area during the crisis.
The Oda-Abuan urged the group to sensitise the people on
the need to avoid being used as tools for destruction by evil
minded persons.
He noted that with the eventual return of peace to the
kingdom, there would be no need for the people to continue to
stay out of their domains.
While noting that the task before all Abuans is to join
hands together in building a prosperous kingdom, King Obuge
thanked the group for the visit.
Earlier, in an address read by the financial secretary of
the organisation, the EELA Abuan Investment congratulated him
on his recent victory at the Supreme Court.
The group also enjoined the king to set machinery in motion
towards resolving all issues such as: chieftaincy, land
disputes and others in the area.
They restated their unalloyed support and loyalty to his
reign as the king of Abua.
